Join partners of The Way Home in observing World Homeless Weekend 2021!
Each year on October 10th, cities across the globe observe World Homeless Day. Its purpose is to draw attention to the needs of people experiencing homelessness and provide opportunities for communities to get involved in responding to this urgent humanitarian issue.
This year World Homeless Weekend, hosted by The Way Home and SEARCH Homeless Services, will be held in Houston from October 8 – 10, 2021.
We would like to invite you and the congregations involved with your organization to be part of this year’s World Homeless Weekend.
Our goal is to unite at least 100 congregations and faith groups across the city by asking them to “do one thing” in observance of World Homeless Weekend. This could be an action to raise awareness, provide volunteer service, or simply pray for some of the most marginalized and vulnerable citizens of Houston.
How can you help? Encourage the congregations that you work with to be part of World Homeless Weekend. Their participation can be as simple as:
- Including a special prayer in the weekend worship service
- Taking a special offering to donate to a homeless service agency near them
- Inviting a speaker from a local service agency to talk with their congregation about homelessness
- Collecting goods to donate to a homeless service agency
- Organizing a volunteer activity for congregational members
- Making “survival kits” for people living on the streets
- Sharing information/videos about homelessness with your congregation
